ring-bound floral notebook by lauren bergold

first off, i have to confess: to make this project, i used an item that was not amongst the fabulous array of goodies which make up this month's pixie dust paperie kit, LA DOLCE VITA. yep, i made this little notebook from scratch, using plain chipboard and a tim holtz ring binder mechanism. and now, as my "top tip of the day" i can definitively report that while it's certainly interesting & informative to build a little notebook from the ground up; when it comes to the finished product, you can save a lot of time and energy by just purchasing a similar pre-made item from the dollar store and dressing it up! so let's focus on that part, ok?! :)

this month's kit is CHOCK FULL of sassafras goodness, and you can see that paper-wise i have focused on it here. i trimmed one of the "sweetly smitten" sheets so that the pretty flower details took pride of place on the front cover of my book.

the spine-edge is trimmed up with pink paisley ruffle darlings, a sass border sticker and the die-cut edge from another sassafras sheet. the center icon has a title made from pink paislee alphabet stickers, and accented with a girls' paperie yo-yo flower i attached with an adorable sass brad. (you get a whole packet of 'em in the kit!)

since i "purpose built" my notebook, it needed a nice strong hinge, and i fabricated mine using some claudine helmuth sticky-back canvas stamped to match the colors of the lovely sassafras papers which make up the front and back of the book.

inside the book you can see i've used EVEN MORE sassafras paper... i LOVE those gorgeous cornflowers, don't you?! to fill the book i trimmed regular old notebook paper to fit, and punched holes using my cropodile.

so to sum up my little adventure in book binding, i repeat: decorating the book is by far the most satisfying part!!! and all the more so if you have all the fabulous bits and pieces in the LA DOLCE VITA kit! and now i am off to the dollar store to pick up some small pre-made notebooks for next time! :)
