butterfly bouquet by lauren bergold

i have confession to make: almost all the work involved in this project was done FOR ME! seriously, this was a very simple... and fairly quick... item to make! it looks pretty sophisticated, though, doesn't it?!

but here's the thing: 90% of this is just cleverly die-cut patterned paper!!! the butterflies were made with a two-part quickutz die; and the papers (which feature girls' paperie, prima, gcd, my mind's eye, and melissa frances) were chosen by pixie-in-chief kirsty to make up the TECOLOTE kit!

all i had to do was cut the shapes, embellish with a little bit of our signature crinkled ribbon, add a brad, and hot glue them to bamboo kitchen skewers!

it helped that a couple of months ago i found this adorable bright green metal pail in the $1 aisle at the craft store. how *perfectly* does it match the "lime twist" papers by my mind's eye? not to mention the baker's twine in the kit--i just HAD TO crochet that into a little flower accent! i used some border punches and the my mind's eye "stella and rose" trimmings to dress up the top and bottom of the pail.

the lime twist mini alphas, adhered to smaller, punched butterflies, make the perfect sentiment for any occasion.

to hide the brads at the back, and reinforce the skewers a tiny bit more, i also hot glued some of the smaller punched butterflies to the back, so they look equally good from all angles!

i can see a zillion uses for a project like this, can't you? to offer congratulations; as a get well gift; to honor a special birthday or anniversary; the next time we think about sending flowers, maybe we should send ♥BUTTERFLIES♥ instead! :)

"home is where the ♥ is" by lauren bergold

my friend mari gave me this set of three alterable panels attached by rings. as soon as i saw them... and the fabulous colors and patterns of september's TECOLOTE pixie dust kit... i knew it was the perfect setting for an idea i've had rattling around in my head for several months:

please forgive this less-than-stellar picture; the only well-enough-lit place in my home from which to dangle and photograph a nearly 20" tall project turned out to be the handle of my decidedly un-glamorous bedroom closet door! luckily i was able to get some better shots of the individual panels.

one of the best things about pixie kits--and you've heard me say this before--is that everything is so beautifully coordinated for us by pixie-in-chief kirsty vittetoe. you can literally sit down the day your kit arrives, open the box, and immediately START CREATING! for someone like me, who can dither endlessly about which supplies to use, this is a considerable advantage!!! ♥

i think i've used one side or the other (nearly every paper in this month's kit is double-sided) of all but three patterned papers from the ten included. i made simple paper shapes to illustrate the familiar phrase "home is where the heart is"; some i drew myself (cloud, tree, door, grass, heart); for others i used chipboard shapes as templates (house, tree trunk, birds); on the alphas i used my cuttlebug.

despite an abundance of lovely embellishments this month, i only used the soft brown seam binding as a hanger, and the key-shaped brad from the entire set of gorgeous my mind's eye ones!

to enhance the "applique" feeling i hand-cranked my sewing machine carefully around each piece. this took quite a bit of time, but i think the end result was well worth the effort!

i hope this month's kit will help inspire you to show everyone where YOUR heart is!!! ♥

Fall Harvest project by Sandi

Hi everyone! With Fall approaching I thought it would be fun to make a pumpkin out of the papers and goodies in this wonderful Tecolote kit. First I got a stick from my yard, then I cut out the gorgeous paper in a pumpkin shape, sewed it, turned it rightside out, put the stem in the top, added a little stitching, added the paper filling that came in the kit for shipping purposes, hot glued the bottom and then added the burlap, cutout flowers, a butterfly, ribbon, key embellie and voila`! I just love this kit...so versatile!

Kirsty's Note -
