"oh snap" card by lauren bergold

one of my personal goals each month is to try to make a cool "guy card" using my pixie kit. for one thing, i love showing that these kits--in addition to being both FAB and extremely generous--are tremendously flexible in terms of the type and style of projects for which they can be used. for another thing, i happen to know quite a few guys, and almost all of them have a birthday every single year!!!  :)

here's what i made with our february kit, YOU MAKE LIFE FUN:

obviously the starting point for this one was that awesome camera from the entire 12x12" sheet of october afternoon's "thrift shop" stickers you get in the kit. my friend juan is one of the best photographers i know, and i think he'll get a kick out of both the sticker and the sentiment. the letters that spell out "OH SNAP" were cut from scraps of pink paislee's "beauty parlor" paper, which has a fun word search grid on its reverse side. there are quite a few full words you could trim, or circle, or highlight; but if the one you need isn't there, just make your own!

i used my manual typewriter to add the same phrase repeatedly on the background paper(the reverse of glitz design's "vintage blue") concentrated around the perimeter of my faux-polaroid, which is composed of plain white index stock from my stash, a scrap of my mind's eye "fun and games" paper, and a dymo label. if you don't happen to have a typewriter or label maker, no worries! you could easily get the same effect using your computer's printer and some fun free fonts!

and now i am anxious to mail this, both because i am excited for juan to see it... and also... because i really *DID* (unfortunately) miss his birthday!!!

"so beautiful" tall card by lauren bergold

for some reason, i rarely make "tall" cards! i'm not sure why, because i almost always love how they come out, plus--from a practical standpoint--#10 envelopes are inexpensive to buy and mail; so i really think i should make a lot more long, lean cards... such as this one based around embellishments from february's kit, YOU MAKE LIFE FUN!

obviously i was inspired by the vintage fabulousness of october afternoon's "thrift shop" stickers. you get an entire 12x12" sheet in the kit, full of elements which are the perfect size for both layouts and cards! i layered the lovely fashionable ladies (who are popped up on a bit of foam tape for more dimension) over the pretty yellow doily, and used a couple of the typewriter key letters (part of the word "memories") and the word "beautiful" snipped from a scrap of the word search pattern on the reverse of pink paislee's "beauty parlor" sheet. the ivory text layer is actually part of the packaging to prima's flocked rub-ons, source of the sweet butterfly image, as well. the yellow flourish paper is called, appropriately enough, "sunshine" and is by echo park.

there are few things in life that don't look even better when tied up with a bow, in my opinion; this one is made from our luscious pixie signature seam binding, and i think it looks... well... "so beautiful"! ♥

Angel layout by Zielonooka

Hello :)

Today I will show you LO of which I’m really proud. Why? Because of the yellow color which I generally don’t like and I use very rare but this time I broke the resistance and I could create something of which I am very happy :).

Picture which I used come from summer 2011and was taken by my husband.

I attached the original swan’s feather next to the image. I and my husband  had collected the feathers of various birds years ago and I found one in a keepsake box. Swan’s feathers and wings always reminds my the wings of an angel.

What do you think about this work?

-Zielonooka

"little bird" get well gift by lauren bergold

i make loads of birthday, christmas, and even "just because" gifts... but i have to confess that i've never made a get well gift until now; i guess because they tend to be a "last minute" type of thing?  but it occurred to me that there's no reason i couldn't make a pretty little thing in advance, using the YOU MAKE LIFE FUN kit, to be ready should i need one:

i started off with this cute little wooden shopping bag, a $2 item from the "unfinished wood" section at the big box craft store.  i sanded the edges and gave them a quick coat of white acrylic. here's one of my crafty little secrets: if you know you're going to cover most of your project with patterned paper, there's no need waste time or paint on the bits that won't show! i used a small brush on JUST the edges and corners of this, inside and out.

of course you'll have guessed that the kit was the source of every other item in this project! i've used both sides of american crafts' "sunshine" paper, as well as pink paislee's "beauty parlor" and "old school". the flowers are prima, mounted on a little foam tape for dimension, and topped with an october afternoon "thrift shop" sticker sandwiched between two of the gorgeous cosmo cricket buttons. prima's gorgeous flocked rub-ons make the PERFECT finishing touch!

the little card is made from another october afternoon sticker, with a computer generated sentiment; the bird and hearts are die cut and punched from scraps of the same papers, and attached to wooden kitchen skewers. the pixie dust signature seambinding that came with the kit is gorgeous, but i had my heart set on *pink*... so i tinted it with a bit of glimmer mist!

i filled the container with my favorite vitamin c drops for the photo, (they're a cross between candy and vitamins... i eat them year round!) but i think any little wrapped candy or treats would work for this. personally, i am hoping that my friends will all be SO HEALTHY this year that i never get a chance to use this gift!  (but it's nice to be ready, just in case!)  :) :) :)
