tea for two cards by lauren bergold

i absolutely love the new dimensional diecuts that sassafras is making: you just pop them from their cardstock backing and fold at the pre-scored tabs for an instant 3-D effect. you get a whole 12x12 sheet from the "sweetly" line in the june pixie dust paperie kit, and i predict you'll be as won over by them as i was!

when i saw them, i instantly knew they'd make the perfect centerpiece on "slider" cards for my mother and mother-in-law. was i right or what?! :)

while i was considering what shape to make the "pocket" my friend june posted this clever card and i thought i'd make my own version. then i found a pretty piece of teacup clipart... and i took a little bit of a left turn!

i never cut a single layer of ANYTHING, so i did what i always do: printed the teacup to fit my 6" square card, stapled it to the two patterns of cardstock from the kit i wanted to use (in this case by american crafts and pink paislee) and cut all three layers at once.

when my teacups were ready, i first made the "bones" of the slider, by which i mean the hidden card that would go inside the cup. i measured the available space, and allowed space for a strip of foam tape on the bottom, left and right sides to hold the card in place, and then cut my paper to fit.

then came the fun part of folding and placing the flower diecuts to overlap the teacup. when i had a pleasing arrangement, i attached the flowers (with more foamtape) to the slider card, so that it could be moved freely in and out of the pocket behind the teacup. finally, i added a greeting that would be revealed only when the card was removed from the slot!

the last step was to make a panel that would hold my teacup and flowers. i opted for simple squares of patterned paper with a low horizon line so it'd look like they cups were perched on a tea table. the white square "napkins" with diecut edges only took a minute to make, but i think they add a lot of style!

since we pixies tend to work a month ahead, my cards were intended for mother's day, but i think this idea could be quite happily adapted to suit any occasion--birthday, shower, get well--to a "T"!!! ♥
