lauren bergold's christmas minibook ♥

when i saw the maya road "mix it up" albums that kirsty has in the pixie shop i couldn't wait to get my hands on one! i don't scrapbook, as such, but i ♥LOVE♥ to make minibooks...especially when they feature my adorable niece and nephew! this one is based around clement c. moore's poem "a visit from st. nicholas" ; the reading of which was a favorite family tradition when my brother and sister and i were children!

the prima "fairy flora" journaling cards in november's snow shoe kit worked brilliantly as additional pages throughout the book, and hold the text of the poem, while the decorated chipboard pages display photos of matthew and madeline from christmas eve and christmas morning last year.

i printed the entire poem onto a full-sheet avery clear label in vogue font, and cut the lines as necessary to fit on the (slightly trimmed) journaling cards, occasionally highlighting words with the echo park "bella road" alphabet stickers.

in addition to the echo park stickers, and cut out motifs, i used a variety of different dies and punches to make my own custom layered snowflakes out of the patterned paper in the kit; i snuck a few punched flowers and hearts in for variety, as well!

the combination of bright primary colors and soft pastels in the kit is wonderful; they add so much interest and contrast to my pages. the polka dot motifs look like snow to me...which makes anything much more christmassy, doesn't it?

since my photos came from a few different occasions--and had A LOT of different colors and light levels--i elected to make them all black and white (with quite high contrast) so that they would really stand out against the brightly colored pages.

adding a bit of black (or white, or any neutral color) to each element of a project gives you INSTANT continuity! i've colored the edges of each chipboard page, inked and/or outlined the papers & stickers, machine stitched with black thread, and used black dymo-labels.

the pixie dust signature seam binding is one of my FAVORITE items...it's such a great finishing touch! here i've pleated and tacked it lightly with dry adhesive before running it carefully through my sewing machine.

and so my minibook... and my post... come to a happy ending! ♥
