Designer Day 2 ~ bijou birdhouse by lauren bergold

country birds might be perfectly happy in a little nest built of sticks and straw, but the young urban professional bird needs something a bit more sophisticated! luckily the march pixie dust paperie kit FLORIBUNDA has everything one needs to construct suitable living arrangements for our upmarket avian friends!

this wooden birdhouse was a lucky find in michael's $1 section. i measured and cut panels for all four sides out of the gorgeous pale blue and aqua sheets of webster's pages, glitz design and american crafts patterned papers from the kit, lightly inking the edges of the house in a coordinating color to hide any gaps.

for the roof i've once again used my trusty 1" circle punch to make victorian-style scalloped shingles adhered in alternating rows. as with my little garage sale house in december, i found this bit easier to accomplish by cutting pieces of plain white index stock to size, and affixing the shingles before gluing the completed panels into place.

i used a few decorative edge punches to cut accents for the roof, walls and base of the house out of both the aqua paper and some gorgeously contrasting pale yellow. i applied a few touches of white acrylic paint to the perch and the "grand entrance" quite late in the game, AFTER i had all of my papers glued into place. i would definitely not recommend doing it in that order, but i think i got away with it!

of course my favorite part of this is the glorious tim holtz pearl "bauble" that dangles from the bottom of the house! so much so that i very slightly cheated by using faux pearls and glass beads from my stash to embellish a coordinating hanger fashioned from jewelry wire. (you could easily substitute some of the elegant pixie dust signature seam binding for this, however!)

i formatted the "home tweet home" sign on my computer and printed it on a clear label from the office supply store. it's affixed to a scrap of patterned paper and held in place by one of the very handy tim holtz memo pins that i also swiped with a little bit of white paint.

finally my handsome tennant (also acquired at michaels...in the floral aisle) was ready to move into his new digs. i do hope he'll invite me to his house warming party!

Kirsty's Note -
I so LOVE this upper east side birdhouse, can I move in  yet?
