my favorite "ingredients" by lauren bergold

Pixie Dust Paperie

"Just Enough Stuff"
by Lauren Bergold
(Day 2)

***

of course you already know that my ♥FAVORITE♥ supplies to use in my cards and artwork are the pixie kits which miss kirsty assembles with such fabulous flair each month, but the other thing i really love to include in my work as often as possible is a bit of vintage goodness... because while i adore having the newest and coolest stuff as much as anyone, there is nothing like adding in something uniquely beautiful, that has already stood the test of time!

(a birthday princess crown using vintage sheet music makes me want to sing, lol!)

i've been collecting and using vintage paper for ages; i love sheet music, old dictionaries, maps, game pieces, magazines, postcards... well, let's just say if it's made of paper, and has a beautiful design or illustrations i either have some, or i want some! :) a few years ago i realized that i had what my friend leslie calls a S.A.B.L.E. situation:  "supplies available beyond life expectancy" (lol!) so i started sharing a few bits and bobs with some of my artsy pals. at some point someone said, "you know, you could SELL this stuff" and thus my idea for themed ephemera packs was born!

(foreign text backgrounds give you the structure of written words without the distraction of their meaning)

i call my etsy shop "JUST ENOUGH STUFF" because that's what i'd like to provide for my fellow papercrafters: a happy medium between "not enough stuff"--and thus a lack of inspiration; and "too much stuff"--which can be overwhelming. i think most people would prefer not to root through and purchase 20 different books of musty dusty sheet music... but who amongst us would not like to be presented with a nice clean plastic packet containing 20 different sizes and styles of music pages just calling out to be used in our next creations? (yeah, me too!) i've tried to assemble collections that i'd like to buy... so that you can skip more quickly the FUN PART of actually making projects!

(vintage nature images add instant charm to pretty much any project, imo!)

my first three types of ephemera packs showcase my favorite--and i think most flexible and useful--themed vintage goodies; each style is available in petite (10+ sheets) or deluxe (20+ sheets); every single one is different and unique, but equal in quantity and quality!

each pack has a variety of sizes and shapes as well as a cool mixture of paper color, finish and patina; some sheets have lyrics, some have illustrations, there is everything from kids' songs to german hymns to guitar string charts!

languages include spanish, french, german, hungarian, icelandic, chinese, japanese, thai, hebrew, arabic, russian, greek and more; every type of publication from phrase books and dictionaries to cookbooks to childrens' stories and gossip magazines!

i confess to a weakness for vintage illustrations, especially of birds; but these packs have lots of other images and text as well: volcanoes, space, dinosaurs, all types of animals, fish and insects, plants and flowers... publications range from calendars to childrens' encyclopedias to wildlife handbooks of every age imaginable!

of course, i have lots more ideas... and lots more STUFF!!! so i'll be sharing other packs and other ideas with you in the coming months. i hope you'll stop by my etsy shop or my personal blog to check them out!

finally a reminder that last october's BLUE MOON pixie dust paperie kit and last january's MY FUNKY VALENTINE kit both include a bit of vintage sheet music, plus a few other older goodies, along with lots of modern-day fabulousness for your creations, and this is a great way to "get your feet wet" if you're new to the idea of using vintage products. more inspiration from ALL the pixies for great ways to combine old and new things together can be found in the october kit blog posts and the january kit blog posts!

"Thank You So Much" Card by Jessy Christopher

A lil card that I created using the ever-wonderful Webster's Pages paper that you can find it in the Feb kit. I also used the doily die cut that you can get hold in the Jan kit. Pretty simple to assemble it, just a lil of fussy cutting, stamping and distressing and you are good to go. Hope you like the card and Happy Sunday!

Xoxo Jessy

Love me some cards by Kandis Smith

As I have mentioned before--I'm a little obsessed with cards! So I made a couple for you using our fabulous February kit:

How fantastic is that green polka dot paper? And it perfectly matches sally's dress! So I had to add my little wild card! I added a shortened "Thanks" to the side with my Graphic 45 letters, tied up some peacock seam binding in a cute bow and topped yellow lace and a girl's paperie button.

This one is on the simple side--I let the wild card do the talking. I just covered my card in Flour Sack paper and ran a strip of yellow cardstock down the middle. Then I machine stitched the sides. I thought it needed another chipboard frame--painted in robin's egg blue acrylic paint then sanded. I cut it in half and added it above my wild card and added some seam binding again! Love it!

Grab yourself some scraps from the Feb. kit and get to making some cards!
hugs,
Kandis

I'm thinking about you my little... frog by Zielonooka

Graphic 45 Woodland Fantasy it’s just beautiful paper with so lovely graphics that it’s not necessary to add many extras to create a beautiful card. It’s just enough to use some 3D tape, liquid pearls, decorative lace add machine stitching and sentence to create something special.

Greetings from Poland:)

-Zielonooka

Kirsty's Note -
I agreed with you totally Miss Z, the Graphic 45 paper in Pixie February Kit is simply beautiful, nothing much is needed! But then again, how clever you are to used that October Afternoon campfire paper as background, perfect match!!!

"Buddies" Layout by Jessy Christopher

To have a buddy to hold, to cry on, to talk & to just giggle really made me a blessed person! I have known Wati for a while now and I am glad we are still buddies! It all started with this hobby called scrapbooking & we met at a forum. Yes, that's how I knew her! We have travelled together and we just know how to enjoy ourselves... well, at least to us! LOL!

I love this photo of us taken at Gili Island and of course it would be a waste if I do not scrap it rite? And of course Pixie Feb kit is the way eh?! I seriously adore the papers and the colors... green + pink is just perfect for a girly layout.

I love to cut as you all know by now and I love to play with seam binding too. Love that vintage green button by Girl's Paperie!

My current fave now is to doodle title and I think it will stick a while with me :) Oh yeah, don't you just love that yellow trim?

My distress-paper layering. I never like to stick my papers all the way down unless I purposely choose to do it. You know me & my dimension rite? Lol.

Thanks for peeking!
Xoxo Jessy

springtime pixie birthday card by lauren bergold

being ageless and all, i'm not sure pixies celebrate their own birthdays, but i bet they enjoy sending cards to their human friends, so i've made a special SPRINGTIME PIXIE birthday card, from this month's kit of the same name:

this card was super-fast to pull together; in fact the layers of paper strips off to the left side were actually scraps and off-cuts from larger projects i made with the kit, that i just ran through a few pretty edge punches. my favorite part, however, is the sentiment, where i got just a little bit fancy!

i inked two of the chipboard frames from the kit in a soft blue, and then used a background stamp over top to get those pretty flourishes on there. then i added a clear sticker to the center, glued the bits together, and affixed them to the card with some foam tape. and there you have it: springtime for pixies...and birthdays, too! ♥

Kirsty's Note -
I think Pixie would love to keep this lovely pixie card to herself, and I don't blame her as this is a super sweet Pixie card, and I love the treatment to the Maya Road chipboard frame!

Sweet Kenzie layout and Adore card by Kandis Smith

Hello everyone!! I'm so excited to be here--and doing my second post! When I got my gorgeous feb. kit I fell in love with this green floral paper--soooo sweet and pretty. I decided to pair it up with the yellow cardstock and cut circles from the pink striped paper. When I was finished with my layout I thought it need a little more pizzazz--and that's when I got a little carried away with some glimmer mist! haha Excuse the warped edges! ;)

And on to my favorite thing in the world.... cards! I just love these Maya Road chipboard frames and I thought it would be even cuter with some cream acrylic paint then sanded down. I just love the effect it has on my card-- a little vintage. Perfect for these fantastic papers--see the green floral again? Just love it!! Added a little of the green seam binding and topped it off with one of the red buttons!

I hope you get the chance to play around with your kit today!
hugs,
Kandis Smith

Kirsty's Note -

"wish you were here" card by lauren bergold

i have to confess i was so taken with the *PIXIE* aspect of the SPRINGTIME PIXIE kit, that i mostly focused on making projects that featured pixies. so when it came to the sheet of october afternoon's "campfire" paper, i tended to use the polka-dotted reverse side, as an accent. but the adorable woodland campground map is so very appealing, isn't it?

i just HAD TO reserve a bit of it, and try my hand at making a card! i wasn't sure what i'd do, until i noticed one section of the paper had a little dotted line leading to a spot marked with an "X"; and i knew i wanted to enlarge on that. i wound up using embroidery thread to really ACCENT the line... and here's what i came up with:
my favorite things here (besides the embroidered line!) are the "photo corners", which i made by stamping two of the small chipboard frames in the kit with a woodgrain-patterned stamp, cutting them neatly into quarters, and stacking the bits on top of each other . i love this technique because it essentially means that ANY size frame can be made to work on any size image!

i did have to cheat very slightly in terms of the chipboard letters on the card: the small ones are maya road mini's and were actually leftover from the october kit, FALL in LOVE! the others i just happened to have in my personal stash, but they are the larger version of the same "noah" font...so i think that's an acceptable exception, don't you??! :)

Kirsty's Note -
Simply brilliant Lauren, great used of that campfire paper that neglected by most of us, and those corners made from the Maya Road chipboard frame in the Kit, another super great idea!
