blue moon cupcake g/c holder by lauren bergold

i cannot believe it's been a whole year since the pixie dust paperie made its debut. on the other hand, i find it difficult to remember just how i ever thought up and created projects without having a box FULL of perfectly matched papers and embellishments delivered to me each month!

the very first project i made last october, for the very first pixie dust kit, FALL IN LOVE, was a super-embellished cupcake gift-card holder made entirely of paper! it remains one of my favorite projects ever, and since it was surprisingly easy to accomplish, i thought i'd make another one with the "anniversary" kit, BLUE MOON. since the kit has quite a few lovely blue patterned papers, and my nephew matthew's fourth birthday is coming up, i thought it'd be fun to do a "boy" version:

i should mention immediately that i did not INVENT this project idea! i used the amazingtresa black's (aka the stamp goddessstep-by-step fabulously artsy cupcake tutorialand i highly recommend it both for creativity and wonderful clarity of instruction. oh and it's FUNNY, too! :)

i adapted the "recipe" slightly to accommodate the ingredients in the kit, but the only items taken from my stash are the styrofoam ball & clip, the wooden bead "cherry", and the lashings of clear glitter "icing sugar" on top! i did swap out punched scalloped circles for the paper flowers in the original, which i think makes it slightly more masculine. i've also used signature pixie seam binding in place of grosgrain ribbon, which looks EVEN MORE like fluffy frosting, don't you think?

as amazing as this project LOOKS... to me the best part is the sheer practicality of its also being a giftcard holder!

and whereas sometimes i've felt a bit guilty about giving an "impersonal" present, it's impossible to think that about a holder that's THIS COOL!

i hope you'll be inspired to check out the tutorial AND the BLUE MOON kit; and maybe treat yourself to a cupcake... to help us celebrate! :) :) :)

Christmas Gift Card Holder by Lori Hairston

Sometimes gift cards can seem a little impersonal.  However, if it's to someplace that you know the person really likes, then that's not impersonal at all.  And when you dress it up with a decorated gift card holder...you can't go wrong!  I started with the green cardstock  and then added pieces from the darling Echo Park Christmas paper.  All of which is a part of the November kit.
And how about that pretty green seam binding ribbon?  You bet, it's from the November kit, too.  The silver tinsel is part of the November ribbon card.  The little circle santa, the red scallop and the green trim at the top are part of an Echo Park sticker sheet.

I added a red button, baker's twine and a safety pin from my stash.  The cardstock is cut to 4 1/4 " x 5 1/4".  Score at 2 1/4 " from the bottom and sew the sides.  Couldn't be easier!  This is probably going to my son-in-law for Christmas.  I think it will be hit with a gift card from one of his favorite places!
